Peter Spoerl

Deputy City Attorney / Advisory Division

Peter Spoerl is a Deputy City Attorney in the Land Use & Planning Unit of the Advisory Division.

Mr. Spoerl has years of experience as an attorney advising on land use, planning, CEQA, redevelopment and other areas of municipal law. Prior to joining the City Attorney's Office in July 2017, he served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Napa, providing daily procedural and transactional advice on a wide array of matters including land use, contracting, public records, conflicts of interest and elections. He also served as lead legal counsel to Napa’s Planning Commission.

Mr. Spoerl previously worked as an associate at Meyers Nave in Oakland, where he advised cities, redevelopment agencies, special districts and other public agencies on a range of issues. He graduated from Hastings College of Law, earned a Master of Arts degree in German Literature and Culture from UC Berkeley and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Comparative History of Ideas from the University of Washington in Seattle.
