Luz Buitrago

Deputy City Attorney / Affirmative Litigation, Innovation & Enforcement Division

Luz Buitrago serves as Deputy City Attorney in the General Public Safety & Code Enforcement Unit of the Affirmative Litigation, Innovation & Enforcement Division. She handles matters including but not limited to code enforcement and rent program-related issues and matters.

Ms. Buitrago has more than two decades of experience as a civil rights/legal services attorney. She served as executive director for the nonprofit Law Center for Families and as executive director for the Center on Poverty Law and Economic Opportunity. She also worked on code enforcement matters as a Deputy City Attorney in San Francisco, and has been a staff attorney at a number of legal aid organizations including the San Francisco Neighborhood Legal Assistance Foundation.

Throughout her career, Ms. Buitrago has engaged in individual and impact litigation and advocacy. She has developed public policy in areas including housing, language access rights for immigrants, public benefits and domestic violence. She graduated from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
